TLC’s Winter 2026 update highlights client impact stories, clinic growth, community partnerships, and upcoming CLE events.
Before Crisis, Clarity
Not every call to TLC comes at the height of a crisis. Sometimes it begins with a simple question, and a conversation that replaces uncertainty with clarity.
A woman contacted us with questions about divorce, but she wasn't in immediate crisis. She was trying to understand her options and what the process would involve.During one of our legal advice clinics, an attorney explained what to expect and helped her sort through her choices. What had felt unfamiliar and overwhelming became clearer.
By the end of the conversation, she felt more confident about moving forward, and reassured that she didn't have to navigate this alone. Afterward, she shared, "You have been beyond helpful. I cannot thank you enough."
Stories like this reflect the everyday work happening across TLC's clinics and hotline. Thiswinter our team continues to see the steady impact of accessible legal support acrossUtah, one conversation at a time.
You are receiving this quarterly update because you've connected with TLC as asupporter, volunteer, partner, or community member. We will share a brief update four times a year highlighting our work and ways to stay engaged.
Our Work in Action
At our in-person Family Justice Center clinic, clients can connect not only with TLCattorneys but also with on-site partners such as representatives from The Refuge Utah,DCFS, and the Provo Housing Authority. Tatiana Christensen, our Executive Director, recently shared: "I helped a client at the FJC clinic in person who needed to speak with a victim advocate for support and resources. It was so nice to just send her to another table in the room instead of giving her another phone number or website.
We've been grateful to welcome several new volunteer attorneys to our YCC clinic inOgden, strengthening our ability to meet growing demand. Brooke Robinson, our staff attorney who coordinates our YCC legal clinic, shared, "We're grateful for all of the attorneys in the Weber County Bar that help us out!"
Because of unrestricted support from individual donors, TLC is able to continue serving non-citizens and others who may face barriers accessing legal help elsewhere. Whilesome funding sources include eligibility restrictions, community-funded support allows usto respond to real-time needs and ensure that services remain available regardless of immigration status.

Community Spotlight
This quarter we're highlighting Utah Crime Victims Legal Clinic (UCVLC), a statewide nonprofit that provides direct legal representation to victims of crime in civil matters related to their victimization. While TLC focuses primarily on family law services such as custody, divorce, and protective orders, UCVLC represents survivors in cases involving housingstability, employment rights, privacy protections, and other crime-related legal issues.
Together our organizations help ensure that survivors receive both family law guidanceand specialized victim-centered representation when their legal needs extend beyond onearea of law. Strong partnerships like this strengthen the overall safety net available to individuals across Utah.

Volunteer Attorneys Needed
Our greatest ongoing need is volunteer attorneys and qualified legal professionals to serve at clinics. As demand for our services continues to grow, expanding our volunteer base is essential to ensuring we can meet community need.
Licensed Outside of Utah or on Inactive Status?
Attorneys licensed in other states, and Utah attorneys on inactive status, may qualify to provide pro bono services in Utah when serving through TLC under Utah's special probono rule. We try to make it easy for attorneys to get involved and are happy to walk you through the process. Please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator atVolunteer@TimpLegal.org with any questions.
Looking Ahead
In the months ahead, TLC will continue expanding community education efforts and strengthening partnerships that increase access to legal services statewide. We remaincommitted to meeting people where they are, whether through a hotline call, a virtual clinic, or an in-person conversation.
