Timpanogos Legal Center Partners with 911 Cell Phone Bank to Expand Emergency Phone Access

January 7, 2026

Timpanogos Legal Center announces a new partnership with 911 Cell Phone Bank, a national nonprofit that collects donated services to support emergency phone programs and help ensure individuals in crisis have access to 911 when it is needed most.

Timpanogos Legal Center (TLC), a nonprofit legal aid organization providing free civil legal services to underserved Utahns, has partnered with 911 Cell PhoneBank, a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring individuals in crisis have access to emergency communication.

911 Cell Phone Bank collects donated cell phones, tablets and other small electronic devices and repurposes them to support emergency phone programs nationwide. These devices helpensure that individuals experiencing abuse or other dangerous situations have a way to call 911in an emergency — even without a paid service plan.

Through this partnership, Timpanogos Legal Center is able to provide a limited number of emergency-use phones to eligible clients who may not have a safe or reliable way to call for help. These phones are intended for emergency use only and can place 911 calls withoutmonthly service fees. Phones are distributed directly through TLC as part of this partnership.

“Access to emergency communication is a critical safety issue for individuals experiencing abuse or immediate danger,” said Rachel Ekman, Development Director at Timpanogos LegalCenter. “For some clients, having the ability to call 911 can be the difference between gettinghelp and being completely isolated. This partnership allows us to support client safety in very real, practical ways.”

In addition to supporting partner organizations like Timpanogos Legal Center, 911 Cell PhoneBank relies on community donations of unused devices to sustain its work. The organization accepts both working and nonworking cell phones, tablets and other small electronic devices.D onated devices are refurbished or responsibly recycled, with proceeds supporting emergency phone access for people in crisis across the country.Community members interested in donating devices can learn more at: https://www.911cellphonebank.org/donate-devices/
